Why Our Former LXP Admins Would Love to Reunite with Learn Amp

If you left your job, what would you miss? Your colleagues? Your work environment? How about your LXP? It might sound strange, but we’ve heard this from some of our former administrators, who’ve told us that they miss Learn Amp. Here, we ask them why.

Relationships end. For whatever reason, you go your separate ways. But there are things about your old flame you miss with fondness. Looking back, you realise just how good you had it, and wish you could get back together.

Apparently, this can be true of learning platforms too. When some of our past admins changed jobs, they found their new learning technology just didn’t feel the same. One of such ex-admin is Talvinder Bal. When our CCO, Joe, congratulated him on his new role, Tal replied that the one of the things he most missed in his new role was Learn Amp. Intrigued, we got in touch to find out more.

Getting engaged with your LXP

Tal is now an L&D consultant with Ernst & Young, advising businesses on making the most of their L&D systems. Until recently, however, Tal worked for Metro Bank, and was a Learn Amp admin who had helped with the initial set up and rollout.

“Initially, Learn Amp was the place you went to complete your compliance training,” he says. “But when the pandemic hit, we suddenly had to look at all the face-to-face courses and figure out ‘Ok, how can we use Learn Amp now?’”

It’s common for companies to use their LMS to simply push out mandatory training. But used well, the right learning technology platform can become an integral part of the overall employee experience—especially now that so many people work and learn remotely. So it’s vital that your learning platform is engaging, enjoyable and easy to useeven for compliance training

Tal told us that Learn Amp’s Netflix-style look felt fresh and modern compared with other learning products they’d used at Metro Bank. Users could browse and find the learning content they needed, at the point of need. Over time, they began to engage with Learn Amp more and more—using it to share knowledge, write blogs and create short TikTok style videos.

“We started creating content with a specific focus. For example, my colleague used it to create monthly learning campaigns on topics around leadership, or diversity, equity, and inclusion. And we began to highlight and curate content, from YouTube or podcasts, to share on the platform.”.

Why would an admin miss their old LXP?

We asked Tal about what he misses about Learn Amp from an admin’s perspective, as opposed to an end user.

“It’s the little things. The reporting functions made it easy to see what content users were engaging with and gauge what they wanted to view. You could make it bespoke to the company design, with the banners on each page. It didn’t feel like a generic LXP—it felt like an LXP our company had made.”

This fits with what we’ve heard from other former admins. When Lydia Driscoll was Director of Learning and Talent Development at Day One Agency, she felt the organisation was in real need of a new LXP. She’d heard great things about Learn Amp through her ATD chapter in New York and was excited to partner up. She wasn’t disappointed.

“Learn Amp was a perfect match for us,” she tells us. “Agile in execution, flexible enough to match our style and needs, and super-easy to use. We delivered some unique culture and engagement initiatives, leveraging the social tools in a way I don't other platforms could manage.”

That idea of colleague engagement is something Tal also misses—empowering colleagues to create and upload content, get it reviewed, and share it with colleagues. “Had I been there longer,” he adds, “I would’ve liked to push the mobile functionality more, so colleagues could learn more, wherever they are and on their own time.”

He also says he felt connected to the Learn Amp community, finding it easy to talk to the team for support and resolve issues.

“They were always quick to respond, and everyone was open to new ideas. It wasn’t just you get what you get—Learn Amp are open to discussions. If I was using Microsoft or another provider, I wouldn’t be able to get that personable approach. I know who the people behind Learn Amp are.”

We also heard from Simon Lancaster, Learning & Development Manager at Immersive Labs, who implemented Learn Amp in his previous company.

"What's that common saying? Once you go to Learn Amp, you never go back? As an L&D team of one, it can be hard to focus on big-ticket projects, with the sheer number of business-as-usual tasks. Previously, Learn Amp took care of the heavy lifting. The clever algorithms, automations and scheduling gave me the time back and breathing space to focus on the bigger picture, so I could create real change and impact. I am sorely missing a platform to support me in the same way.".

What if you could get back together with your LXP?

Tal says his Learn Amp experience informs how he now advises other companies on their learning technology. He says he always thinks of how to leverage the LMS or LXP as part of a company’s learning strategies. Yet the LMS he uses now himself does make him pine a little for Learn Amp. We asked if he ever imagined he could miss a learning platform.

“No. At Metro Bank, I used Learn Amp so frequently, it was just part of my role. It’s only now I realise, ‘Oh wow! I used to be able to do this, that and the other on there’. It was such a huge portion of my day, but I just didn’t realise it until I left.”

When relationships end, it’s natural to wonder what if…? In fact, Lydia—who is now Global Talent Partner at Bloomberg LP—tells us she still finds herself thinking of ways they could use Learn Amp. With that in mind, we asked Tal what he would want to achieve if he had another chance.

“If we could reunite, I’d want to create a learning culture, where everyone feels involved and responsible for each other’s learning. You don’t have to be an e-learning designer or L&D professional. But you could be an expert within your own team who has a great piece of content around risk or IT to share. I’d like to create a one-stop shop for people to own their own learning.”.
